It was approximately 8:00pm on Sunday, February 17th. We were enjoying a cup of coffee with one of Billy's friends at the Starbucks in La Crosse, Wisconsin when the moment we have ALL been waiting for finally arrived - Brody let go of the chair he was cruising around and began WALKING, yes WALKING around the entire store! We had known the moment was coming because in the week prior to the big moment, he had begun taking two to three steps to reach from one piece of furniture to another. I was hesitant to make an announcement until we returned from our weekend vacation and were certain that the walking was not just a momentary triumph due to vacation bliss. But, much to our enjoyment and relief, he has continued to use walking as his preferred method of mobility. Below is a cute video we took on Tuesday night:
A few weeks ago, my mom and I were talking about how Brody was getting SOOOO close, and mom mentioned that it was perfectly fine for him to be a cautious child - just because his parents had a history of activities such as rock climbing, or bungee jumping, and his father had spent many of his infantry days hanging off a rope from a perfectly good helicopter, it did not mean that our children had to be daredevils.
That very same afternoon, I discovered my "cautious" child, inventing the next X-game: Stair Sledding. To compete, the participant must be wearing a one piece ensemble (similar to footed pajamas) and, at the top of the stairs, lay down on his belly, feet heading down the stairs. Then, straightening his arms in front of him and his legs behind him, the participant slides down the stairs as quickly as possible, trying NOT to bend his knees and therefore lose momentum! (I haven't been quick enough to capture this on video as the run ends within mere seconds)
The weather in Iowa has not improved - Wednesday the high was a balmy six degrees...there's really nothing else to say about that...
Alexa continues to keep us laughing with her creative antics! One night last week, we simply made sandwiches for dinner. Billy had mentioned he only wanted one. A few minutes later, Alexa said that Daddy wanted two sandwiches.
"No, he said only one," I replied.
In a much lower voice, Alexa then yells, "Oh, I almost forgot - I wanted two sandwiches!"
Returning to her 'normal' voice, she then sweetly says, "See? He wants two!"
We've also had a few items around our house that needed some sewing, and since my mom sews and is coming for a visit over the summer, I found myself saying on several occasions, "We'll see if Grandma can fix that for us." This apparently caused Alexa to doubt my abilities to fix anything, because when she showed me a hair bow that simply needed to be glued back together, she stated, "Maybe Grandma can fix this for me."
