The kids and I drove, so we got back into Iowa on April 27th and my mom flew into town on the 29th so that I could fly to SC and attend the military ball with Billy. We had an amazing time together, squeezing in not only the ball, but also the annual Columbia, SC Crawfish boil, a trip to Charleston, and a few dinners with some good friends during our whirlwind weekend. The kids didn't even seem to care that I was gone since they had Grandma around!
We're finally in the home stretch, with Billy graduating from the Captain's Career Course on May 21st. Just two more weeks and we can finally live in the same house again!! I'm ready for us to be a family again. Poor Brody, being only 2 has had a hard time understanding exactly where Daddy is and often asks if we're going to "Daddy's house", a phrase he began using during our visit over spring break. Any time we go to an airport, he assumes its to pick Daddy up, and because we've used Skype to "chat" over the internet using our webcams, Brody assumes that Billy can "see" through my cellphone as well (since his photo pops up when he calls) and he holds my phone up to his toys or the TV to "show" his Daddy whatever he is doing.Brody had his adenoids removed and his 2nd set of tubes put in on April 21st and is doing very well. He is speaking more and more and his pronunciation is slowly improving. I'm certain we will continue speech therapy in Ohio, but he has shown vast improvement over the past five months.
Alexa is doing an amazing job in school and loves reading! We enjoy visiting the library almost weekly to check out new books and videos. She still keeps us entertained with her perspective on life and her comments as her comprehension and vocabulary continue to increase.
After a particularly heavy spring rain, ants began seeking shelter in our kitchen. We bought a few ant traps with a sweet liquid poison inside (which is supposed to lure the ants to drink it) in hopes of eliminating the unwanted tenants before any potential buyers noticed them.
One morning we were running late and Brody and I were already in the car waiting for Alexa. When she finally climbed in, I asked her what had taken so long. "I was talking to the ants," she explained, "telling them where to get water so they would drink the poison and die." Such a sensitive child I've raised...
Earlier this week, she asked me if I knew what "dabreeze" is. I refrained from stating its when 'da-wind' is blowing softly' and asked her to tell me. "It's another word for trash!" she exclaimed. Dabreeze/debris - now I get it!
