With the new year came lots of new snow for Ohio. The kids and I made the most of it, building snow creations and dragging the sleds around the yard.

Since both kids did not have school on MLK Day, we headed to the Children's Museum in Dayton and met up with Marenda and baby Oscar. Brody was thrilled to discover the museum offered his favorite item, a mode of transportation to crawl in and around and pretend to drive! Alexa loved the two story play area in the center of the museum.
Alexa has had quite the eventful month -
Our church offers Upward Basketball and Cheerleading, so Alexa signed up to be a cheerleader this year. Games started in January, so every Saturday she gets to cheer during a basketball game. I'll try to post videos soon!
Alexa's school emphasizes one character trait every month and chooses a student from each class that best demonstrates that trait. Alexa was one of the Students of the Month for December for consistently demonstrating kindness! We are very proud of her - she was recognized at a PTA meeting and received an award certificate.
Alexa's best friend Maddie had her birthday in January, and to celebrate, Alexa got to spend the night at Maddie's house. The girls were soooo excited for their sleep over. Below are a few photos of the girls in their matching Hello Kitty shirts.
And lastly - Alexa decided she was ready to get her ears pierced, so the last Friday in January, we headed to the mall! She did great with the process and loves having earrings, though she's anxious for the first six weeks to be over so she can begin wearing some of the cute earrings she picked out at Claire's.
Brody kept me quite entertained in January! He is talking so much more now, though it does still take him a little while to get warmed up to a new place. He has begun going to a home based care center on Tuesdays so I can work from home. He loves "Mrs. Bwenda" (Brenda) and always asks to go to her house. However, I guess it took him a bit longer to warm up to the kids. On his third visit, when I picked him up, Brenda told me he must have said something to another child because all of a sudden another of the little boys that she keeps came running up to her exclaiming, "Mrs. Brenda! Mrs. Brenda! Brody can talk!" (While Alexa's chattiness obviously comes from MY side, Brody's quiet nature must come from his other parent!)
And speaking of my daughter's chattiness, she typically hops in the car after school talking non-stop about the day's activities. Brody, on several occasions, has tried unsuccessfully to interject, so he finally just yells, "My turn to talk now!"
He also has a growing infatuation with super heroes. He has a set of superman pjs as well as a set of spider man ones. He went through a phase in January where he constantly wanted to watch "The Incredibles" and sleep in one of those two pajama sets every night. One night both sets were in the wash so I put a different set of pjs on him. While dressing him, he looked at what he was wearing and asked, "hey where's my superhero man clothes?"
And lastly...one evening after reading Brody his bedtime story, he was still pretty wound up and running around his bedroom. I said, "Come on, Brody, it's time to lay down and go to bed." He came over and stood right in front of me, held up his hand (with all five fingers spread), and said in his most serious voice, "Five more minutes mommy". It was so funny, I had to laugh and say, "Ok Brody, five more minutes!"
Thankfully, he returned promptly to his bed for 'night-night time' when those five minutes were up!
While January has been entertaining, I am grateful the longest month of winter is OVER. Billy comes home for two weeks of R&R in March and we are anxiously counting down the days.
I hope to do a better job with updating the blog in the coming months - it's too overwhelming of a task to catch up when I get this far behind!! :)
