Last Sunday, the 22nd was "Funday Sunday", an annual carnival the church we attend out here hosts. I really had no idea what to expect, but wow was it huge! Alexa LOVED it!! Everything (with the exception of the hot dogs and pizza) is free! Since Billy was out of town, I brought the kiddos by myself, and while we did some things with friends, most the stuff Alexa wanted to do, she had to be a big girl and do it by herself since I was strolling or holding Brody.
She was so excited to ride the big boat and I couldn't believe she picked the seat at the very top! She also rode the "Berry go Round" (a spinning ride similar to the Disney Teacups), got her nails painted, her hair painted, and went on a pony ride! She had a great time!!
It was also a great opportunity for me to test out the new sit 'n stand stroller I just bought! I LOVE this stroller! It is a little more compact and much more light weight than the traditional double strollers, plus the older child can sit or stand (as the name implies) so the parent does not have to pick them up to put them in the stroller - Alexa likes the new "big girl" seat and it makes my life so much easier when trying to take both of them places by myself! Thursday was her preschool field trip to the zoo (another fun time) as well as Brody's monthly weight check. At 16 lb 7 oz, he has gained almost a pound over the last month! He has gotten even closer to crawling this week, with a few knee movements here and there, but once he realizes I am watching him (or if I actually cheer for him), he quickly reverts to his sitting position and pops his thumb back in his mouth...
Billy was supposed to be out of town until next week, but instead, his trip was cut short due to a schedule change and he came home today!

Although Easter was actually over two weeks ago, this month has gone by so fast, it really does seem like it was just the other day...but anyway, we've had a great month thus far!! Alexa LOVED decorating Easter eggs and finding them (when we got home from church, we alternated hiding eggs all afternoon - first Mommy hid them, then Daddy hid them, then Alexa, and on and on and on...)

Brody's had an AWESOME month! At the end of March, Brody had his 9-month well baby visit - he only weighed 15 lb 9 oz, which was only 3 ounces more than his weigh-in at the end of February, but, it was five ounces more than the previous week when he went to the doctor for strep throat, so I found it positive that he had gained five ounces in five days! And, at 27", he was finally on the chart for height! His head has always been on the chart, typically in the 25th percentile, although now his head is up to the 35th percentile (he's my bobble head baby).
I started panicking, however, because once he recovered from strep, he wanted nothing to do with his baby food - he's always loved carrots and sweet potatoes, so I cooked some alongside our dinner and offered him those, and he loved them. Over the past two weeks, he has made unbelievable progress with his eating and is doing well with eating just about everything we do, in small bites. They had told me when he started the reflux medicine that it could be four to six weeks before his throat and esophagus healed, and it was pretty much six weeks to the day that his eating began improving.
He goes in for another weight check next week, and I can't wait to see how much he's gained! He's much more confident with his movements and can get himself into the crawling position; he's just not sure how to go anywhere. He also stands really well if we put him next to something he can hold on to. He has a physical therapist working with him on his movements as well as the early interventionist, and he has a speech therapist working with him on 'talking' and eating. All said that the effects of reflux can be underestimated, and they really feel that his late diagnosis is the reason for all his delays. There has definitely been a noticeable change this month in his activity level and his food consumption, and I can't wait to see where he'll be next month (when he turns a year old!!).
With the great spring weather, we took the kids to the zoo last weekend. We bought a membership that will allow us to visit as many times as we want over the next year, so I think we'll be spending a lot of time at the zoo! Alexa loves it - she enjoyed seeing the llama and feeding the goats at the petting zoo and was quick to point out that she could do both those things this summer at grandma's house! She also went on her very first pony ride at the zoo, which I think will be an activity she wants to repeat. Brody enjoyed being strolled, as you can see!
Have you seen the 'sticks' that have become a popular way for women to pull their hair back? Ever since I first saw the girl in "Rush Hour II" whip her hair back in those things before taking on Chris Tucker, I've thought they seemed like a pretty easy yet stylish way to keep your hair out of your way. Little did I realize how DIFFICULT manuevering those little sticks actually was!! After much perserverance (and some help from my sister-in-law and mother-in-law), I finally figured out how they were supposed to work! Pleased with my new skill, I decided to wear my hair in the sticks to a church social yesterday evening. I was even more thrilled when, after hours of easter egg hunts and bubble blowing with the children, my hair was still held in place as securly as when I had left the house! Finally, I had actually managed to pull off a trendy hairdo. While reflecting on my hair success during our drive home, my daughter broke out into a huge grin in the back seat.
"Mommy looks like a caterpillar!" she announced to her father.
Yep. A caterpillar. Not a butterfly, the epitome of grace and style, but instead, the fuzzy insect that inches through life with those funny looking antennae sticking out the top of its head..so much for my trendy 'do - it can be a very humbling experience to see yourself through the eyes of a three-year-old...
