So I'm long overdue on a blog post! Here's a rundown on the last month! As mentioned in the previous post, Billy had to leave the first week of January for the Captain's Career Course in South Carolina. When we returned home from Utah over Christmas, Iowa had experienced a "heat wave" of sorts (temps in the 50s) so all the snow had melted out of our yard!! One week after Billy left, we had a huge snow storm come through, dropping about 4 inches overnight! Thanks to my neighbor with a snow blower, I was able to get Alexa to her dance class on time that Saturday morning...unfortunately, it did not end there, and this was what the table on our deck looked like by Wednesday! After that, I hired someone to clear our driveway! The shovel and I don't get along that well, especially when the temps are in the teens or below.

Billy got to see our winter wonderland again since he flew in for Martin Luther King weekend! It was great to see him, though pitiful how much I needed to see him when he'd only been gone 2 weeks! We didn't tell Alexa he was coming in, so it was a total surprise when we picked her up from school! We headed straight to Chuck E. Cheese (her choice) where she and Brody had a blast. Brody has decided that he is now a big boy, and prefers that I not cut up his food, thus the gigantic slice of pizza he's shoving in his mouth!

To help pass the time when Billy's away, the kids and I try to schedule things to look forward to, so the Friday after Billy was gone again, we camped out in the living room, having a pizza picnic and eating s'mores after roasting marshmallows in our fireplace! Since I was the one playing in the fire, I only have one photo from our 'campout'!
Alexa is doing awesome in kindergarten and it's amazing to literally watch them learn new concepts and words. The children's director at our church is a reading teacher, so I'm always asking her for ideas, and she told me how to make flash cards to help a child learn the "chunks", like "th" and "sh". For "th", she recommended taking a photo of the child holding up their thumb, for "sh", a finger in front of their mouth (like shhhhh), and a cheering photo for "ch". Alexa had fun posing for the photos as did Brody! However, I was taking the photos at night and apparently Brody found the flash a bit bright, as evidenced by the fact that he covered his eyes and said "BITE" (bright) after every photo (and I of course photographed that as well!)
Lastly, here's just a few more cute photos of the kiddos when we discovered they had matching pajamas! Brody was given his PJs last Christmas, and we discoverd Alexa's in a box of hand-me-downs from a cousin!
