One Finished Fairy Costume!

I've actually completed my first sewing project that fits a person! I've made blankets and doll clothes since I received the sewing machine for my birthday a year ago, but making items that someone else actually had to WEAR made me nervous! I decided making a Halloween costume would be a safe bet because the item only has to be worn a few times! :)

My daughter decided she wanted to be Silvermist, the water fairy from the new Tinkerbell movie for Halloween. This is Silvermist (in case you were wondering).


Sure, you can buy Silvermist costumes, like the one shown below.



Or, there were "official" Tinkerbell movie character patterns you could buy, but those looked like the same dress over and over again, just in different colors (plus it was more expensive than other patterns!)


So, after deciding that there wasn't really a pattern or costume that looked like the Silvermist dress anyway, we just chose our favorite fairy pattern (that was on sale!) and chose sparkly blue fabric to make the dress! With a little adjustment to the skirt, we ended up with this! Alexa's happy with it and I am pleasantly surprised at how it turned out! We also bought a cheap pumpkin trick-or-treat basket that we are going to cover with the leftover material to make it (hopefully) look like a water droplet, like she carries in the movie! That part of the costume Alexa gets to help with!
